Rihanna Confirms ‘R9’ Will Be A Reggae Album

Along with making fashion history last week as the first woman to create an original brand with LVMH, Rihanna just dropped some nuggets about her forthcoming music project that will make the patient Navy very happy.

In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times Style Magazine, the pop icon dished to acclaimed playwright Jeremy O. Harris about the album, adding that her fans had a hand in picking its potential name. The nine-time Grammy Award winner said she “didn’t know yet” what the title was going to be for the opus, but is strongly considering R9.

“So far it’s just been R9, thanks to the Navy,” she said, acknowledging her fan base.

“I’m about to call it that probably, cause they have haunted me with this ‘R9, R9, when is R9 coming out?’ How will I accept another name after that’s been burned into my skull?”

So far, little information has been released about her ninth album, but the Bajan beauty did confirm that the album will be a reggae-influenced collection.

As far as her reuniting with her former “What’s My Name?” collaborator, Drake, RiRi is sure that is not in the plans. “Not anytime soon, I don’t see it happening,” she said. “Not on this album, that’s for sure.”

Rihanna also denied that she planned to work with recent Academy Award winner Lady Gaga.

“Maybe because she followed me on Instagram,” she furthered about the possible reason the rumor took off. “It’s not in the books right now, but I’m not against it.”

As far as the timeline for the proposed opus, Rihanna said she didn’t “know yet.”

R9 will be the follow-up to her 2016 offering, Anti, which peaked at No.

1 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum two days after its release.
