Homelessness is a real problem that exists in every corner of the world. Even in the areas you would least expect to have a homeless population, it is still an ongoing issue.
There are many reasons why homelessness occurs, both demographically and economically, but regardless of the reason, the homeless are still human beings. Many people have a deep passion for homeless ministry and serving the homeless. In small ways and big ways, good Samaritans work hard to help the homeless get back on their feet. This can often come in the form of offering free meals or even serving at a soup kitchen.
There are even more ways that people have helped the homeless, like when Officer Jesse Whitten of the Santa Rosa, California, Police Department adopted the baby of a homeless woman battling d-rug addiction.
But the small kindness of simply buying a homeless man a meal still goes such a long way, and that’s exactly what Burger King employee Matthew Resendez did.
The young teen’s mother, Michelle Resendez, posted on Facebook about her “proud mom moment,” telling the story about how her son performed a wonderful act of kindness.
When a homeless man came into the Burger King restaurant with only 50 cents, the man asked what he could purchase on the menu with such a small amount of money.
When Matthew heard this, he decided to step up.
He asked the man what he would purchase if he could purchase anything he desired.
He then bought the man his meal and even sat down with him as he ate so he wouldn’t eat alone.
“The story could end there and It would be a happy ending, but apparently a women (sic) watched my son during his random act of kindness,” Michelle said.
“Not only did she write the company to let them know about the caring employee they had working for them, she also rewarded my son with a very generous tip!”
In fact, the woman tipped Matthew $100 for his big heart.
“So proud to be his mom and I can pat myself on the back knowing that I’ve played a part in raising this big hearted young man,” Michelle Resendez said.
Thank you, Matthew, for showing us all what it looks like to love others!
