The US Embassy in Ghana has congratulated Team ACROBOT for emerging as champions at the 2019 Robofest World Championship. Ghana all girls robotics team (ACROBOT) stunned the world’s robotic community by beaten host nation the United States of America and other competing nations to emerge winners of the senior division side at this year’s World Robofest Championship.
Team ACROBOT, made up of nine brilliant students, won the highly competitive senior division side of the competition, completing their mission successfully with a robot that arranged boxes according to a binary number.
The nine girls, all from the Methodist Girls Senior High School based in Akuapim-Mamfe in the Eastern Region of Ghana, made their country proud when they proved unbeatable, leading all 10 categories of.
The championship in the senior division.According to the Embassy’s official instagram post that went viral on Wednesday, it noted that since 2011, the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (organizers of the Robotics Competition in Ghana), founded by Dr.
Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu, a Senior Robotics Engineer at NASA through its Robotics inspired Science Education (RiSE) program, has been fostering a strong interest in Science Technology Education and Maths (STEM) subjects in many senior high school students in Ghana.
“We are proud to partner with GRAF to promote STEM education in Ghana,” it added.
The three day event which was held at the Lawrence Technological University (LTU), Southfield, Michigan, USA had categories including Game (Complete Robotic Missions), Exhibition (Showoff Projects), Vision Centric Challenge ( Develop Robots to Solve Using Cameras), Unknown Mission Challenge (Surprise Missions), RoboArts (Robotics Music, Dance and Arts Competition), Bottle Sumo ( Pushing Bottle or opponents off a table), RoboParade ( Parade of Robots), Camps, Carnival and WISER, a conference on STEM education through robotics.Since its inception in 1999, Robofest has provide opportunities for over 25,000 students worldwide to master principles of Science.
Technology, Engineering, Maths as well as Computer Science, Communication, crit-ical thinking, team work, and problem solving skills while designing, constructing and programming robots.
