As fans mourned the of rapper Nipsey Hussle in a brazen outside his South Los Angeles clothing store Sunday, they also turned their attention to his longtime girlfriend Lauren London, praising the actress as an integral part of what made him so special as a man, an artist and a leader in his community.
The famously private but glamorous couple opened up about their relationship in a GQ profile that was published earlier this month.
Notably, the profile showcased the couple posed stylishly in various settings in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles, where 33-year-old Hussle lived and worked his whole life and where he was “pretty much royalty.”

The story was titled “California Love” and featured this subhead: “The people’s champ of West Coast -hop and New New from ‘ATL’ are redefining what a storybook romance looks like in 2019.”
Fans definitely bought into the “storybook romance” aspect of Hussle and London’s relationship, which began five years ago. The couple were parents of 2-year-old son Kross, and their blended family included Hussle’s daughter from an earlier relationship and London’s son Cameron, 9, from her relationship with Lil’ Wayne.
Hussle, who was born Ermias Asghedom, and London, 34, quickly became one of hip-hop’s favorite couples because of their obvious affection and devotion to each other, which is evident in this GQ Couples Quiz that was posted along with their GQ profile. In the video, London teased Hussle about how he was her “celebrity crush.”
Earlier in their relationship, they were dogged by infidelity rumors and by a in November 2017, according to InTouch Weekly.
However, they reunited, and London herself defended Hussle on Instagram, writing that they were “so good,” and asking, “Why all the hate? All these random, fake-a s s rumors?”
More recently, London shared this photo of their son Kross on Instagram:

In recent months, Hussle and London also sparked engagement rumors, including a report in TMZ that was inspired by their photo for GQ.
“When Grammy-nominated West Coast -hop titan Nipsey Hussle and his scene–actress girlfriend, Lauren London, appeared in the middle of Slauson Avenue with a white stallion, TMZ assumed they were taking engagement photos,” GQ writer Mark Anthony Green explained.
In the profile, Hussle and London opened up about how they first got together. Their love story started because London was a fan of Hussle’s music.
In 2013, while filming BET’s “The Game,” London wanted to buy copies of Hussle’s new mixtape as a wrap present for her co-stars. This was a pretty generous gift, considering that the marketing model for the tape was to make only 1,000 copies, which would be sold to -hard -hop fans for $100 each.
Pretty soon, Hussle and London were following each other on Instagram and direct-messaging each other. “A modern-day love story if ever there was one,” GQ writer Green noted.
In both the profile and in their GQ Couples Quiz, Hussle and London revealed that respect was at the center of their relationship. London explained that Hussle was “alarmingly” and charmingly upright and polite — “really, really polite,” according to Green. Hussle later explained that being polite was a reaction to how he grew up:
“I grew up in an environment where being polite was taken as a weakness. So I just everybody,” he said.
The two also bonded over their careers, with Hussle pursuing his music and releasing his first studio album, “Victory Lap,” last year. He also pursued other entrepreneurial ventures, including a STEM program for inner-city kids and his Marathon Clothing store, which were designed to bring business to his Crenshaw neighborhood.
Meanwhile, London gave up the chance to star in John Singleton’s TV drama “Snowfall” after she became pregnant with their son.
But Hussle appreciated how hard it was for her to pass on the role.
“It was the toughest decision of my career by far,” London said about the series, which became a big .
“I didn’t put any pressure on her for whatever decision she wanted to make,” Hussle said. “I learned then that what she believes in, she really believes in.”
On Sunday and through Monday, fans filled Twitter with messages of love and sympathy to London:
